Standard pubgrub in downtown Sebastopol. It was a nice day so we sat
on their patio. Pleasant, but it was out of sight of the servers and
we felt a bit forgotten a few times. The menu doesn't have many
surprises, although there are some creative riffs on the hamburger
(cheese, mushrooms and broccoli, to name one, mozarella, mushrooms,
marinara and parmesan, to name another).
I had the "Seige of Sebastopol Burger," a half-pound burger with a dollop of sour cream and caviar ($9.75) and Sarah ordered the Cobb Salad ($9.50). My burger was alright, but I'm not sure I'm sold on the sour cream topping. The caviar added a small amount of texture, but any flavor it had was overwhelmed by the beef, which was flavorful and cooked as ordered. The shoestring fries were better than average, crispy and thin.
Sarah's salad was full-featured, with chicken breast, bacon, Romaine lettuce, tomatoes, avocado, hard-boiled egg, bleu cheese and dressing. A healthy salad it is not, but it was pretty good save for the overcooked and rubbery chicken.
Service was casual and friendly. A few drink refills took longer than they should have, which we attributed to our sitting out of sight on the porch. Beer-wise, I had the White Owl IPA, a well-balanced brew with lots of hoppiness.
Sebastopol Brewing Company is a fine choice for the area, and I'd return if I had a hankering for an unusual burger and a brew in the region.
