Comfort food brought up a few notches best describes this popular joint. Upon arrival at the Market St. location, we were promptly seated in the nice covered patio in back, and were informed that it was happy hour ($3 drinks, yay!).

From their specialty cocktail list (they have a full bar as well), Sarah ordered a Homegirl ($7, when not happy hour, vodka, lime, cranberry, triple sec, shaken & topped w/champagne) and I a Homeboy ($8 during un-happy hours, gin, OJ & lime w/ginger ale on the rocks) - both were very good.

On the food front, S. had a wedge salad ($7, iceberg, bacon, carrots w/buttermilk ranch dressing) and a side of cheesy broccoli ($5), both of which were good, although the broccoli was overcooked. I had the flatiron steak ($17, Meyers Ranch steak, french fries and red wine butter), which arrived cooked exactly as I ordered it (medium-rare). The side fries were crispy and delicious, and the butter added a nice depth to the steak (it's pretty hard to go wrong with steak and butter as long as you cook the steak right!).

Our server was friendly and casual, and checked in on us from time to time to see how we were doing. All of the other tables seemed to be having a good time as well (happy hour indeed!). We split a strawberry rhubarb crisp ($6.5), which proved a great end to a comforting meal.

Home does their thing and does it well - most of the entrees are fairly straightforward, but the execution is solid, and the service matched the comfortable and stylish interior. A good bet for food in the Castro (and, I imagine, Cow Hollow, but I haven't been to that location yet).
