Good North Indian food in a pretty white-tablecloth space, but on our visit, poor service (this may have been because it was New Year's Day and they were short-staffed - I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt here). Nobody met us at the door and we had to wander into the dining room to find someone, who just waved generally towards some tables without saying anything at all. We sat and sat before being brought menus, and the utensils were fairly flung down on the table with no care at all. Our order was taken sullenly, the entrees took a long time to arrive, etc etc.

The food itself, however, was tasty. We started with vegetable pakoras, which were well-flavored and crispy, served with a spicy mint chutney and a sweet (tamarind?) chutney. Our chicken vindaloo (ordered with "medium" spice) was very flavorful, but the potatoes were a little starchy/bland, perhaps because they were cut into large rather than small pieces, giving the tasty sauce less surface area to stick to. The heat of the "medium" was about right - I'd have liked hotter, but Sarah wouldn't have. Our seekh kabob (ground lamb skewers) was tasty as well, served sizzling hot.

As usual we way overordered (an appetizer, rice for two, naan for two, two entrees, and papdum). I'd skip the rice next time sine the onion naan we had was very good and comes in large portions. Except for the service, this was a good visit. I'll have to return to see if the surliness was an exception or the rule. Hopefully an exception as there are not many Indian places in my neighborhood.
